This Company Built a 3D Virtual Caregiver to Transform Health Care for Seniors

You may have seen a character like Addison in a sci-fi movie – virtually embedded in dynamic 3D scenes in her home, from the living room to the kitchen and sometimes in the art studio. But she’s not a movie persona – Addison is a 3D virtual caregiver, designed to address the caregiver crisis.


The U.S. population is aging rapidly. By 2030, 71 million Americans will be 65 and older – and at higher risk for health problems and chronic illnesses. A recent study by CTA and CTA Foundation found 99% of seniors say they prefer to live independently, and 97% want to stay in their homes as they age. The study also shows 60% of seniors are ready to embrace health and remote care technology to help them live more independently. ECG’s products including Addison are created to address that very challenge – to ensure seniors can age in place with appropriate care and attention.


Addison Care was created in 2018 by Electronic Caregiver (ECG). Comprised of several, free-standing visual touch screens consoles with built-in sound, far-field microphones and state of the art depth feeds for visual analytics, this cutting-edge enterprise platform can manage health data, patient care and cost optimization among other things.


Committed to bringing affordable and effective connected health solutions to those in need, ECG designed Addison to assist with health, fitness, nutrition and revolutionizing the virtual assistant experience. In her long list of capabilities, Addison can identify a patient, collect health history and symptoms, take vitals readings and instantly update their personal health file in the providers’ health record system.

Addison, which is built on Amazon Sumerian – an AR/VR platform – generates the ability to rapidly iterate. Her real-life persona is a result of incorporating complex AI suite, conversational speech technologies, sentiment analysis and motion analysis including fall-risk assessments and behavioral health support.


“After ten years of research, the number one desire of the aging population is to remain functionally independent, living in the home they know and love,” Dohrmann says. “By working on health monitoring at the location where the activities of daily living occur, we can extend functional independence, support and improve behavioral health issues like loneliness and depression, and we can improve health outcomes, improve treatment adherence, reduce hospitalization and reduce costs.”


Scheduled to release in the U.S. market in the second quarter of 2020, Addison will be offered through an existing home care network in over 700 locations  and available in more than 30 languages.  


At CES 2020, ECG plans to show Addison production models with enhanced care features.
